Safeguarding
Safeguarding at Crosslee Community Primary School
Crosslee Community Primary School is committed to the safeguarding and welfare of all our pupils and families. We expect all staff, governors and volunteers to share this commitment to safeguarding our pupils.
We have a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment, including our safeguarding policy and child friendly safeguarding policy which can be viewed in the policies section on our website.
We listen to our pupils and take seriously what they tell us. All school staff are trained in child protection, the training equips staff in being able to look out for signs of physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse and neglect. Staff are required to report any safeguarding concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) Mr Pugh.
The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) Mr Pugh, is supported by the members of the safeguarding team.

We also have a safeguarding governor and her role is to challenge and monitor the school policy and practices. Sue Nicholson is the named safeguarding governor, although it is the responsibly of all governors to safeguard the children.
We are fully committed to ensuring that consistent, effective safeguarding procedures are in place to support pupils, families and staff at school. We follow the Manchester Safeguarding Partnership procedures and Keeping Children Safe in Education. Sometimes we may need to share information and work in partnership with other agencies, when there are concerns about a child's welfare. Any concerns that are passed onto other professionals are in compliance with the Government’s Information Sharing Guidance.
We actively support the Government's Prevent Agenda to counter radicalism and extremism.
All schools have a Safeguarding policy which tells people what to do if they think a child may be suffering abuse or neglect. All of the staff at Crosslee are trained in Safeguarding and Signs of Safety and learn the signs of abuse/neglect. .

Security and safety on the school site
Every member of staff wears a photo ID name card. Everyone who visits the school during the school day does so via the school office, where they sign in and can be greeted by a specific member of staff. Visitors and volunteers wear a photograph visitor badge to show they have followed the safeguarding security checks at the reception. On arrival, visitors and volunteers are given information on the school’s safeguarding procedures and to share any safeguarding concerns with the DSL.
Safer Recruitment
Crosslee Community Primary School creates a culture of safe recruitment and, as part of that, adopt recruitment procedures that help deter, reject or identify people who might abuse children. Members of staff involved in the recruitment process have been trained in safer recruitment and follow the statutory safer recruitment guidance in Keeping Children Safe in Education.
Everyone who works with our pupils in regulated activity (have regular contact with our children) has a DBS check. This means specific checks have been carried out to ensure their suitability to work with children.
Safeguarding in the Curriculum
At Crosslee Community Primary School, children are taught about how to stay safe, where to go if they do not feel safe and staying safe online (more information can be found in the online safety section on our website).
Our taught curriculum and programme of assemblies covers how to stay physically and emotionally healthy and includes e-safety and relationship education. The curriculum aims to equip the children with the lifelong skills they need to stay safe.

Early Help
Early Help is the support we provide to children and families as soon as we identify emerging needs, ensuring challenges are addressed before they escalate. Our approach is strengths‑based, collaborative and rooted in building positive, trusting relationships with families. We work closely with parents, pupils and external professionals to create clear, practical plans that improve outcomes and promote wellbeing. Crosslee follows Manchester’s Early Help Framework, and families can access further information about the local Early Help offer through the Manchester City Council website, which outlines the pathways, support services and guidance available to families across the city.
